Laser Treatment Information

Elevate Evansville offers personalized laser treatments based on each patient's individual needs, goals, treatment area, and provider recommendations. Review the information below to learn more about ClearLift Laser Treatment, Dye‑VL, and Laser Tattoo Removal.

Pigment & Vascular

Dye-VL

Dye-VL is an advanced light-based treatment designed to target red and brown discoloration, including vascular and pigmented lesions, for clearer and more evenly toned-looking skin. It combines pulsed dye laser and intense pulsed light technology, using high-intensity pulses of visible light.

Every treatment plan is personalized according to the patient's skin, treatment area, and individual goals. A series of treatments is commonly recommended, with appointments generally spaced approximately 4–8 weeks apart.

Before Your Dye-VL Treatment

  1. Sun & Skin Preparation

    • Avoid tanning, sunburn, tanning beds, and self-tanning products on the treatment area.
    • Arrive with your skin at its natural baseline color.
    • Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily.
    • Limit unnecessary sun exposure before treatment.
  2. Tell Your Provider About

    • All prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, supplements, recent antibiotics, and products that may increase sensitivity to light.
    • A history of cold sores or fever blisters in or near the treatment area.
    • Pregnancy.
    • An active skin infection, open wound, rash, or new or unusual skin lesion.
  3. Skincare Before Treatment

    • Unless your treating provider instructs you otherwise, avoid irritating or exfoliating products on the treatment area for several days before treatment.
    • Products to avoid may include retinoids, retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, scrubs, and similar active skincare products.
    • Do not stop medically necessary prescription medications, aspirin, or blood thinners unless the prescribing clinician specifically instructs you to do so.
  4. Day of Treatment

    • Arrive with clean skin.
    • When possible, do not apply makeup, lotion, perfume, deodorant, or other topical products to the treatment area.

What to Expect After Dye-VL

Redness & Warmth

Mild redness, warmth, and sensitivity may occur and are generally temporary.

Darkening of Pigment

Treated brown pigment may temporarily darken and can take on a dark “peppering” appearance before gradually fading.

Healing Timeline

Light redness and dark peppering may remain for approximately three days. Do not pick, scratch, scrub, or peel the treated areas.

Results may continue improving over time. Your Elevate Evansville provider will recommend the number and timing of treatments based on your skin and individual treatment goals.

Dye-VL Aftercare

Comfort & Cleansing

  • Use cool compresses as needed for comfort.
  • Do not apply ice directly to the skin.
  • Cleanse the treated area gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser.
  • Pat the skin dry instead of rubbing it.
  • Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer as needed.

Sun & Heat

  • Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day.
  • Protect the treated area from direct sunlight while the skin is healing.
  • For the first 24–48 hours, avoid excessive heat and activities that make the treated area feel very hot or flushed.
  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, very hot showers, and strenuous exercise during this initial period.

Skincare

  • Avoid exfoliating, scrubbing, or waxing the treated area until all redness and sensitivity have resolved.
  • Avoid potentially irritating active skincare products until the skin has recovered.
  • Resume active skincare products gradually.
  • Makeup may be applied once the skin feels comfortable and intact, unless your provider gives you different instructions.

Contact Elevate Evansville If You Experience

  • Blistering, crusting, drainage, or an open sore.
  • Severe or increasing pain, or significant swelling.
  • Redness that worsens instead of improving, or signs of infection.

Important Dye-VL Care Notice

These are general Dye-VL care instructions and do not replace the individualized directions provided by your Elevate Evansville healthcare provider. Always follow any treatment-specific instructions you receive during your appointment.

Treatment recommendations, results, and the number of sessions required vary by patient. A consultation with an Elevate Evansville healthcare provider is required to determine whether Dye-VL is appropriate for you.

ClearLift

ClearLift Laser Treatment Aftercare

  • Cleanse Gently: Use a mild cleanser and lukewarm water.
  • Hydrate: Apply a gentle, non-irritating moisturizer to soothe the skin.
  • Avoid Heat and Sweating: Avoid hot baths, saunas, strenuous exercise, and other activities that cause intense heat or sweating for at least 24–48 hours.
  • Makeup: Mineral makeup may be applied immediately if necessary, but it is best to allow the skin to breathe for approximately 12–24 hours.

What to Expect After ClearLift

Redness or Warmth

Slight redness, mild swelling, or a warm sensation may occur during the first few hours.

Small Red Dots

Small, faint red dots may appear beneath or on the skin and generally fade within a few days.

Itching or Dryness

Laser & Body

Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal is a gradual process. The number of treatments and the level of fading may vary depending on the tattoo's age, ink color, ink depth, location, skin type, and individual immune-system function.

Most professional tattoos may require approximately 6–10 treatments, and sometimes more. Treatments are typically spaced approximately 6–8 weeks apart to allow the body time to remove fragmented ink particles.

Before Laser Tattoo Removal

  1. 2–4 Weeks Before Treatment

    • Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners on the treatment area.
    • Wear SPF 30 or higher daily on exposed areas.
    • Do not treat sunburned or recently tanned skin.
  2. 1 Week Before Treatment

    • Avoid waxing, plucking, or chemical peels over the tattoo.
    • Inform the provider about skin infections, rashes, cuts, or open wounds near the treatment area.
    • Notify the provider about medications that may increase light sensitivity.
  3. 24 Hours Before Treatment

    • Stay well hydrated.
    • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
    • Avoid strenuous exercise immediately before the appointment when possible.
  4. Day of Treatment

    • Arrive with clean skin free of lotions, oils, makeup, deodorant, or perfume on the treatment area.
    • Wear comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the tattoo.
    • Topical numbing cream may be applied according to the provider's instructions.

After Your Treatment

Expected Responses

After treatment you may experience redness, swelling, tenderness, a temporary white or frosted appearance, occasional mild pinpoint bleeding, and blistering within approximately 24–48 hours. These may be expected responses and commonly resolve over several days.

First 24–48 Hours

  • Apply cool compresses for 10–15 minutes several times throughout the day.
  • Keep the treated area clean and dry.
  • Leave dressings in place as instructed.
  • Elevate the treated area if swelling occurs, especially when treating the hands, feet, or ankles.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, hot tubs, saunas, and swimming.

Skin Care

  • Wash gently with mild soap and lukewarm water.
  • Pat the skin dry without rubbing.
  • Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor, petroleum jelly, or another provider-recommended healing ointment.
  • Continue moisturizing until the skin has fully healed.

Blister Care

  • Do not pop or peel blisters.
  • Allow blisters to heal naturally.
  • Keep the area clean and lightly moisturized.
  • Contact the office if a blister becomes increasingly painful, produces pus, or develops significant redness.

During Healing, Do Not

  • Pick scabs.
  • Scratch the treated area.
  • Shave over the treated skin until it has healed.
  • Use exfoliants, retinoids, acids, or abrasive scrubs until cleared by the provider.

Sun Protection

Protecting the Treated Area

Avoid direct sun exposure while the skin is healing. Once the skin has healed, apply SPF 30–50 daily and cover the treated area whenever possible.

Sun exposure may increase the risk of pigmentation changes and may slow the tattoo-removal process.

Contact Elevate Evansville Immediately If You Experience:

  • A fever over 101°F
  • Increasing redness spreading beyond the treatment area
